Ohana/Mickey’s No So Scary Halloween Party
The day was finally here... breakfast at Ohana! It was my first time at both the Polynesian and Ohana restaurant. Check-in was fast and easy, but the host took forever in walking us to our table. He was a short, funny looking man who thought it was okay to pick on me a little and ask about the outfit I was wearing. I’m not sure why I’m the target when it comes to being made fun of, but I think the annoyance was written all over my face. Just STFU and let me sit down. My anger subsided once the the food arrived LOL.
Our reservation was at 11:20 am, and so the restaurant was pretty empty at this time. We were first served Aloha juice, a platter of fruit, and the Ohana Breakfast Bread, which includes pineapple and coconut. The Aloha juice is addicting. It’s a combination of orange, passion fruit, and guava. I also thought the Breakfast Bread was rather delicious, but I was being conservative so I wouldn’t spoil my appetite for breakfast. I had to stop myself from eating all the fruit too since Miguel won’t touch it. He’s somehow allergic to anything remotely healthy. *Eye roll.*
I was hyped when the server brought over our breakfast. It’s a family-style serving of scrambled eggs, sausage, fried potatoes, biscuits, and STITCH WAFFLES. Honestly, I was content with getting my hands on some Mickey waffles finally, but I got overly excited when I saw they made Stitch ones. lmao. I can’t remember if there was bacon or not. If there was, I suspect Miguel ate it all. When Miguel asked for more waffles, we got an assortment of both Mickey and Stitch.
As we began eating, I was carefully watching Mickey as he was approaching our section of Ohana. He was so cute in his Hawaiian attire! Character breakfasts are so stressful. I was trying to eat and stalk the characters at the same time to make sure I was ready when they came to our table. Slowly, but surely, I got pictures with Mickey, Lilo and Pluto. Once Stitch made it to our table, my anxiety was in overdrive.
I’M SO HAPPY I FINALLY HAVE A PICTURE WITH STITCH. OMG. I love that when you take a picture with him, he squeezes you to death in a great big hug. Miguel was being cheeky by telling Stitch that he could have me and that he didn’t need me anymore. So, Stitch proceeded to take my hand and run off with me. LOL. Stitch continued to be sassy the entire breakfast, and scolded Miguel on and off. It was memorable experience to say the least.
All in all, I enjoyed my experience at Ohana, even though it was $95 for two people! Disney successfully emptying my bank account once again. The one thing I found odd though, was that Pluto was with the PhotoPass photographer. I would’ve thought the photographer would have been with Stitch since it is essentially his breakfast. Still, I got cute photos of Pluto sitting at our table with us.
Next up, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party! My main objective was to watch Mickey’s Boo to You parade and the Not So Spooky Spectacular fireworks show. I must say that I enjoyed Disneyland’s parades a lot more, but I do love the addition of the Black Widow Bride from The Haunted Mansion. I love that she glides down the parade path with a ghostly glow. The new Halloween fireworks show this year was on point. I’m glad we were super close to Cinderella’s castle because watching Jack Skellington walk out from the castle during the show gave me the pure chills. We also caught some of the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular while I ate my corn dog nuggets from Casey’s Corner. Hocus Pocus never struck a particular fascination with me in my youth so I don’t see it as one of those classics that I must rewatch every Halloween. The Nightmare Before Christmas kind of took that crown for me.
My other mission was to meet Stitch in his Elvis costume. We just so happened to pass by the Stitch encounter at around 6:30 pm to find that a line was already formed for Stitch. I decided I might as well get it out of the way before the Halloween party started. HE’S SO CUTE IN HIS ELVIS COSTUME. OMG. I don’t care that I had just taken a picture with him six hours before, I was still just as excited as ever and I am so glad I got to finally cross that off my bucket list.
We didn’t get on too many rides during the party, but I made it a point to see both Mad Tea Party and The Haunted Mansion overlays. It was fun seeing live actors outside of the Mansion this time around since Disney World does not do the Nightmare Before Christmas transformation. As for desserts, I didn’t really pursue anything during the party. My main focus was on the Jack Skellington sipper. I am glad he was in Disney World because I didn’t see him at all in Disneyland. I managed to talk myself out of the Loungefly Mickey Pumpkin backpack, any new Mickey ears and the Halloween popcorn buckets. I kept myself limited to only the two slippers I really wanted. I’m proud of myself. LOL. We also didn’t trick-or-treat this time around since I had so much candy from Disneyland that I had to bring back home. The treat trails don’t look as fun as they do at the Oogie Boogie Bash anyway.
My only regret is that I didn’t wear an actual Halloween costume. I think my well needed break from cosplay is wearing off, and I do miss dressing up in fun costumes. Watching everybody at the party in costume kind of gives you fomo. I think next time I will at least go as Alice since that costume hasn’t really gotten much use. Plus, I’d love to pursue a picture in costume with my favorite girl. It’s funny that my favorite female characters, Alice and Tinkerbell, are not princesses. I also think next time I’d prefer to do the Halloween party in October. I had all my Halloween fun in September, and then had nothing to really do in October. LOL. I’m running out of bucket list things to do in spooky season.
Well, another Disney trip in the books. Now, I am broke and still trying to plan another trip for my birthday...
