Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Hollywood!
Halloween Horror Nights was so much fun this year! I opted to do it in Cali this year because it fit my schedule better, and essentially the mazes were exactly the same at both parks this year, which hasn’t been the case the years before. We started the night off with the House of 1,000 Corpses maze first. I loved seeing all the Captain Spauldings throughout the maze and Doctor Satan. It’s bittersweet looking back on it now because unbeknownst to us, Sid Haig died that day. It still makes me so sad. I should have gotten a photo with him at Monster Mania when I had the chance. Haig has become a horror icon and cult figure within the community due to his portrayal of Captain Spaulding. With the release of Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell, the last installment in the House of 1,000 Corpse series, it is sad to know he won’t be able to see his fans reactions to the movie. I’m still waiting to see 3 From Hell because its release was so limited in theaters and I didn’t want to go by myself. The only negative to that maze was that I got sprayed IN THE FACE with water. Miguel got hit on his shoulder, but because I’m so short... yup, right in the face. That wasn’t the last time it would happen too. Like WTF Universal, stop doing that shit in your mazes. If I wanted to get wet, I would have went on the new Jurassic World ride. It’s a good thing I only stuck with my Mac Pro Longwear foundation for this vacation. Just makes me even more angry that they are discontinuing the foundation.

Next, we headed down to Us and The Curse of Pandora’s Box. I literally watched Us on the plane that day before arriving to HHN. I’m glad I did because I would have had no idea what was going on in that maze. I actually liked the film. I thought the story was unique, which is refreshing nowadays because horror is not what it used to be anymore. I didn’t find Us terribly scary though, so the maze wasn’t really frightening. To be honest, I didn’t find any of the mazes to be terrifying personally. Ironically, Miguel was the victim of all the jump scares because he would go in first. I was laughing through every maze. Serves him right. Anyway, I’m a horror fan at heart, so I found some of the mazes really cool to go through and I wish I had my phone out half the time to capture the fun moments inside. Ghostbusters was the least scary, but visually, I loved seeing the Marshmallow Man and Slimer everywhere. Slimer was my favorite growing up as a kid. I watched the cartoons religiously, and lived off of Ecto Cooler juice boxes. Stranger Things, Creepshow and Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman were all fun too. Although, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, was my favorite. I’m that weirdo that got excited to see all the Klowns inside. It’s a stupid, campy horror film that I can’t help but love. I did see the Killer Klowns donut as I walked over to Ghostbusters, but I decided against it because I figured I’d get donuts later. Let me tell you... I got no donuts that night. I passed on Voodoo Donuts too at the end of the night in favor of California Donuts. I figured since I spend more time in Orlando, I could get Voodoo any time. In reality, I was so wrong. California Donuts was packed and we couldn’t find any parking around the donut shop at 11pm. I should have went with my gut instincts, and got a few donuts from Voodoo. When will I learn? Eat the first donut you see. Regrets.
I actually really enjoyed the original mazes as well. My favorite was Holidayz in Hell. There was a horror scene for every major holiday in the calendar year. Once you exited the maze, you entered straight into the Christmas in Hell scare zone. As you can tell, I loved it as I have a sheer fascination with Krampus. As for the scare zones, they were just meh. Toxxxic Tunnel and All Hallow’s Evil were fun to go through, but the others were just generic. I’m upset Orlando got Rombie Zombie’s Hellbilly Deluxe scare zone along with the maze. Salty is an understandment. All in all, I still enjoyed HHN. We managed to make it through every maze except for The Walking Dead, which in all honesty, wasn’t that great the last time I went through it. The Walking Dead is really losing steam. I’m surprised they keep including this maze in HHN year after year. I’d much rather go through Myers house again than see pitiful zombies. I’m sad that none of the horror icons were there this year. No Micheal Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger or Chucky... I guess, you can’t have it all, but I say why not?
