Big Apple Con
I'm having PCD (Post Con Depression) right now. I had to talk myself into going to work this morning AGAIN. I miss my bitches and baes already! This con was pretty much a success.
If I am being completely honest, I wasn't feeling this con as I was prepping for it. I hated making this revamped version of Poison Ivy. I don't know if the stress of work got to me, crafting a new costume on top of that or other personal stuff with a certain friend.
I still wasn't feeling it the morning of the con too. My costume looked fine. I knew that because I put it on several times last week and tweaked it each time. My makeup came out how I wanted it to. My contacts weren't irritating my eyes, and in fact, they looked great. I put on my eyelashes on the first try. I think it started with the wig. It's always the wig. My red wig is a bit messed up from NYCC, and it was bothering me sooo much. I thought it was frizzy, I couldn't get the flowers situated right, some the curls were messed up, etc... What is funny is the messiness of the wig didn't show on camera. I was basically fussing for no reason.
I changed into my costume at the venue because I didn't want to be uncomfortable traveling into the city or ruin the leaves by sitting on them for a long period of time. The bathroom was not the greatest so it was tricky getting changed, but once I did get into my costume I felt better. I think I pulled off Poison Ivy 2.0 pretty well. I liked this costume better than the one I created for NYCC. That was my goal so I'm happy I accomplished that. My costume stayed together too. I think I was too insecure in my sewing abilities because the leaves stayed put all day and the bottoms stayed attached. My ass was pretty much out though in this. I guess, I should just embrace it and know that my ass will never be modestly covered in bodysuits of any sort haha.
Shortly after arriving to Big Apple Con, we had to go outside across the street to the DC shoot. IT WAS FREEZING. Luckily, one of Jaycee's friends was kind enough to give me his jacket. It was nice to have "security" at the con haha. Jaycee is always hooking us up and taking care of everything. I had to wait a lot because I think Poison Ivy was only in the villains, Gotham and Siren groups. I did get some shots in with Ron while I was outside, so I am excited to see those.
Ironically, the venue was blazing hot inside. I was half-naked, and even I was pretty warm at times. I guess that worked in my favor though. I feel bad for anyone that was fully covered haha. The rest of the con we spent hanging around Lua's booth, taking pictures with awesome cosplayers and photographers, and walking around to see the other booths there. I like that we now know a good amount of photographers and cosplayers. We've made so many awesome friends, and they have all been very sweet to us during our cosplay journey.
The only negative experience we had was the old former Playboy model next to Lua's booth. I wasn't around or close enough to hear anything she was saying, but the old model was pretty much rude to us. She definitely hated being put next cosplayers who are a lot younger (and prettier) than her who happen to generate a larger crowd. She was saying stuff like, "Well, if I'm gonna be in the background of this picture then I better get paid." Bitch, no one even knows who you are though? Why are you even here? It said on her banner "comic book hero"... of what? Playboy model from 40 years ago does not equate to a comic book hero. The girls swore she was trying to poison them with a donut she offered them because she said was on a diet. Hahaha. I know, we're assholes, but we're not called BITCHES of Cosplay for nothing.
This is definitely not the last you will see of Poison Ivy. Next, I want to do a cosplay of the animated version of Ivy.
Next up: Atlantic City Boardwalk Con! Oh, and I purchased a Saturday ticket for Special Edition! Project get a NYCC ticket as Black Canary is underway. Hopefully, I don't want to go on Sunday in the future. I'd be wasting money on what could have been a weekend pass.
