Beach Bash and Random Complaints
Chinh and I went to the Beach Bash this past Saturday. We've never been to a cosplay party before, and we weren't exactly thrilled about either. I'm not a drinker, and I can't see how fun a "costume" party in May can really be. We call it "cosplay", but in reality it's a costume party. I think these parties are lame. I only want to cosplay at actual conventions. Jaycee threw us into the mix though, and so I felt obligated to go. I think we've hit our quota for the year. The Bitches should be a rarity, so when we walk in it's like the Mean Girls walking into high school lol.
I wore my Darth Vader swimsuit along with the Sith Robe I got from Amazon, which was rather cheap quality for $35. It was a kid's medium too! Why is a kid's costume so much??? The hood didn't look how I wanted it to, but oh well, it was just a beach party. I liked how my makeup turned out. I did a black smokey eye with red blended into the crease. I am proud of my improving makeup skills. I am not perfect at black smokey eyes, but I am hoping to get better at it for my Harley, Joker and Freddy cosplays. I decided to breakout the "Thor boots" for this cosplay, and they actually aren't that bad to walk in, but they are by no means comfortable. My feet did hurt by the end of the party. I also found out that the boots BARELY fit my calves. I was talking to Elena about this and she said they must think girls who are a size 6 have small calves. Now, I feel like my calves are gigantic. T_T
It took us THREE hours to get to the city because the subway was running so local that we had to wait 25 stops. Ugh. We finally made it to Payard to meet up with Felipe though. I feel like we were on a mission. We weren't gonna stop until we got those macaron ice cream sandwiches. We got to sit down, and an enjoy our sandwiches while we caught up with Felipe. I love seeing Felipe. He's one of the best people I know, and I'm grateful that we have a photag friend like him. He went ahead and stole two Coconut Mango ice cream sandwiches for us because they weren't on sale yet. So, basically we got the first ice cream sandwiches of the season. YES. He also gave us a box each of macarons. ^_^
We finally made it to the party by 3pm. Fashionably late, of course. The party was okay. Me and Chinh must of been the only sober ones haha. We basically took pics with Jason and Jaycee, which was our main reason for going to this party. Later on, we did the cosplay "fashion show". I hate being on a stage where everyone is looking and staring at me. I got off the stage as fast as I could. For the rest of the time, we hung out with the #worstmanagerever, the Cosbaes and some of the other cosplay girls we've met at cons recently. We also took a bunch of group photos with everyone, which all came out cute. I was kinda bored though towards the end. Christine said she found us bitches on the couch when she arrived at the party. lmao! I had no interested in dancing. I just wanted to sit, and by that time Jessica had arrived at the party. I feel like five hours was too long for a party. It was dragging. We finially left at 6:30.
We went to get pho, which was really close to the lounge thankfully. It was good we got pho because I felt fat for having that ice cream sandwhich, and pho just seems healthier to me lol. We almost forgot to look for the Cosplay Culture magazine, so we made our way to Barnes and Nobles to get a magazine before we left the city. I also managed to get myself a chocolate banana smoothie lol. I'm mad because they only every have strawberry smoothies at Starbucks on Long Island. Bullshit. Felipe was nice enough to drive us to St. John's so we didn't have to take the subway back. We are going to shoot with Felipe again soon in June so I'm excited!
Overall, the party wasn't too bad. I'm happy how my beach cosplay turned out. I am even more happy that I had awesome pics for Star Wars Day (May the Fourth Be with You) and Revenge of the Fifth today. I want to do more Star Wars cosplays in the future. The highlights for me were seeing Jaycee and the Cosbaes, shooting with Jason, reuniting with Christine, having dinner with everyone and getting to hang out with Felipe. It was a good Saturday I must say. It wasn't a complete waste of time like I had thought.
As for cosplay progress, I cut out all the necessary pieces from craft foam. The gauntlets were giving me hell though. I'm not an expert with the exact-o knife apparently. Honestly though, who is really gonna look at my costume be like "that doesn't look perfect." I am just realizing though that I didn't cut out the backs for each gauntlet. I'm trying to figure in what order now to construct everything. I think I need to glue/assembly everything, and then spray paint it all silver. Once that's done, I can do shading for all my pieces. So, Thor is obviously is not ready.

I hate that they ALWAYS give out ugly wrist bands. It conflicts with my cosplays!!! |

Leave it to Jaycee to get the ass shot. When he sent my photos to me, he wrote Darth Kayla in the subject line lmao. |
This reminds me, I was kind of underwhelmed with Age of Ultron. I still like the first Avengers better. I don't know if it's because I am getting tired of Marvel. Marvel is too "upbeat" for me lol. It was a nice change of pace to watch Daredevil on Netflix because it was more dark and gritty. This movie was just the same old shit. Is it funny? Yes, but I'm not here for comedies. I'm soooooo ready for Civil War. I need a change of pace, especially since Spiderman can be in the MCU now. I am also dying for the new Thor, which I will have to wait a while for. T_T
"Muahahaha. Let's continue selling tickets on Wednesdays at 12 pm right in the middle of your work day, where you have shitty internet speed. Oh, and let's roll out all the tickets at once before you get paid for the week. Also, let's do this before ACBC when your stress level is at an all time high! We just want to fuck with you, and do this all before SE where that will be your last resort for tickets of any kind. Muahahahaha."
Ugh. T_T
