Tasty, Tasty Beautiful Fear

With the impeding release of It: Chapter 2, I finally dusted myself off from cosplay rust, and shot my Pennywise costume. I really enjoyed Chapter 2, despite some people’s critical responses, and their need to express it on Facebook every hour or so. I do understand how the film’s overuse of CGI could be off putting to the audience. A common complaint of Chapter 2 is that the monsters are simply not scary, and while I think CGI is to blame, I still find horror to be subjective. What is terrifying to one person could be child’s play to another. I find The Exorcist deeply disturbing, but others find it hilarious. While I find those types of people to be sociopaths, people are simply scared by different things. Don’t get me wrong, I love mindless horror films that have plot holes around every corner and an antagonist whose backstory generates more questions than answers, BUT it is nice to watch a horror film that provides an in-depth, unique story. It’s the content of the story that makes a film horror, not cheap jump scares and the relative subjects that you personally find horrifying. Hopefully, by the end of this year, I will finish the book so I can see how it compares to the theatrical releases.
